Acceptance Requirements
Please note that the following requirements must be met in order to be eligible to receive a scholarship through the Daniel M. Kerrane, Jr. Foundation Scholarship Program.
Eligibility
- A minimum GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale is required.
- A GED is acceptable, however valid documentation is required.
- Applicant must be a U.S. citizen or legal resident, eligible to file for federal and state financial aid.
- Applicant must be a resident of the City of Chicago and eligible for in-district tuition rates.
- Applicant must disclose any prior police record. This will not necessarily disqualify the applicant from consideration.
- Extracurricular activities and community service are not required; however participation in these activities will strengthen the application.
- Applicant must be a full-time student (minimum 12 credit hours) if accepted into the program.
- Applicant must be in pursuit of his/her first degree. Applicants who have previously completed a bachelor's degree will not be considered as a potential Kerrane scholarship recipient.
- Applicant must have financial need.
All Applicants
- Must provide a copy of her/his SAR (Student Aid Report) with the application. The SAR is received about four weeks after filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). You may file a FAFSA for current academic year.
- Must submit one recommendation completed by any of the following: a teacher, counselor, minister, employer, or other non-related adult. Contact information must be included so the DMK, Jr. Foundation selection committee may reach this person during the selection process, if so desired. Go to the Apply for Scholarship page and click on the link to download a recommendation form.
Application Requirements for Graduating High School Seniors with no college experience
- Applicant must provide a copy of his/her high school transcript.
- Applicant must report his/her ACT or SAT scores either as part of the high school transcript, or with an official score report. There is no minimum score required.
- Applicant must apply at the City College of Chicago to which she/he plans to attend. Proof of enrollment must be attached to the application.
Application Requirements for Current CCC Students or Students with previous college coursework
- Applicant must have completed and passed remediation coursework.
- Current CCC students must be enrolled in either a certificate or associates degree program. That program must be indicated on the application.
- Applicant must provide a copy of all college transcripts.
- Applicant must be registered at the City College of Chicago that she/he currently attends. Proof of enrollment must be attached to the application (for current CCC students, a CCC transcript is sufficient proof).
