Mentoring Program

The DMK Mentoring Program was implemented in response to the need for greater interaction with our scholars and to help DMK Scholars succeed both in the classroom and beyond. With better communication and referrals to campus and community resources, we believe that every one of our scholars can succeed.

DMK facilitates mentoring connections by establishing one-on-one interaction between community members and scholars. The intention is for this relationship to assist scholars in further developing their life skills, and inspiring them to excel academically. In addition, the transition from school to career will be smoother with the help of mentors who have traveled a similar path.

Many of the DMK mentors are successful students, graduates, and professors who are knowledgeable of the issues facing CCC students. Others are successful members of the community in a related field of interest to what DMK Scholars are studying. The core activity of mentoring is the development of relationships that will, in turn, enable the scholar to achieve their academic and life-long goals. The nature of this mentor/ mentee relationship is to promote academic success, professional development, as well as character, social, and leadership development.

The mentoring program is a one-hour commitment each month, and all DMK Scholars are required to attend all mentoring sessions. These sessions take place at the City Colleges of Chicago district office.

DMK is currently looking for members of the Chicago community to act as mentors for our students. Please read the Mentor Job Description for more information.
